Character
Description
In Castleton, Arialoth Welkin is the winner of the Matching Season 3 years prior to current events. However, rumor and speculation follow this tiefling as his wife was killed merely a year ago, and that Arialoth might be responsible for her demise. As far as the public is concerned, Arialoth is returning to the Matching Season to make a new match and retain his newly gained lordship in Cerul.
Arialoth is a 6'2" crimson skinned tiefling with long black hair and yellow eyes that almost glow. He is very fit and muscular, a body fitting of a successful fighter and athlete. His horns extend backwards behind his head before curving upward, their height getting accentuated when he tilts his head down, making him more intimidating.
Storylines
Background
Arialoth Casvir competed during the last Matching season. During this time, he met and matched with a sea elf named Ariana, and the two were named Perfect Match together. To celebrate their winning, King Zander Torrent of Cerul named the pair the heads of the newly formed House Welkin, granting lord and ladyship to them both.
Two years later, it was discovered that Ariana Welkin had been killed. Not much of the investigation was released to the public, keeping the entire event as far from the media as they could. Nevertheless, while it was theorized that Arialoth was responsible for his wife's death and that he was the prime suspect, King Torrent declared that Arialoth was innocent of the crime. This hasn't shifted the minds of many people in Cerul or other nations.
Castleton Part 1
Lord Arialoth Welkin travelled to the Castle alone, having a brief meeting with Luciano Tidal as they travelled through the Solar Circle. Shortly after entering the Opening Ball, Arialoth was approached by Fallyn, Demigoddess of Fables and daughter of Fame and Folklore. She showed sympathy for Arialoth being in the matching season, and they shared a brief moment of kinship as they understood that neither wanted to be in this Matching Season, but both were being forced.
When the Duchess finished her speech, the floor gave way and everyone was divided onto several floating platforms. Arialoth initially stumbled, but was saved at the last moment by Fallyn just before falling over 100ft into the pit below. She got distracted and dropped Arialoth onto the platform below where several attendees drew blades in his direction. These assailants were dispatched (unintentionally) by Vera Riviera just before she assisted Former Marquis Valvaris Mistmoor in getting onto the platform with Arialoth, hoping to defend his lover, Fallyn, from what he believed was an attacker. Blows were traded, and Fallyn tried to deescalate the situation before the floor came back together and the pair of lovers fled.
Arialoth was made invisible by his advisor, Kairon, and instructed to leave the Ball after he made a scene. The next morning at the Kingsbrook estate, a meeting was held between Arialoth, Duke Miles Kingsbrook, Kairon, and Vera to discuss how to rehabilitate Arialoth's image and get him a match. It was decided to spin the attack by Valvaris into Arialoth defending Fallyn in the moment as he is an accomplished fighter, and use that as a main selling point to other matches. Afterwards, Kairon and Arialoth discussed who to send letters to for date week, deciding on Second Princess Veyrah Armadeum, as well as Mimi, Demigoddess of Shifting and daughter of Shifting and Shadows.
Arialoth chose to bring Veyrah on a date to Elysium which was chaperoned by First Princess Desta Armadeum. They two had an excellent conversation about what they were looking for in matches as well as how they could be a smart match together. Arialoth asked Veyrah to dance, which she accepted, and the conversation continued until Arialoth asked if Veyrah would like to leave the club, which she responded yes. His attempt to evade Desta using the Darkness spell was thwarted immediately as she cast Daylight to counter it. He apologized, and Veyrah pleaded the case that she agreed to leave, but Desta was rightfully worried for her sister's safety.
For Mimi, their date on "Snow Day" began at the Tea Shop owned by Mimi and Serendipity, demigoddess of Luck. Mimi made him tea and they spoke momentarily about what they would do, settling on a walk in the park. It is here that they found not only Mimi's magical goat polymorphing children into animals, but also Duke Troyllus Gladius and Lady Anri Claymore of Arma with Troyllus' daughter Skylark. While much merriment was had, Arialoth was struck by the goat, it's magic interacting with the source of his own shifting abilities, and transforming him into a miniature version of a Tarrasque. The children, unafraid of him, began playfully attacking and wrestling with him. As everyone was shortly afterward turned into mermaids, a kinship seemed to form between all four unmatched, and a deep mysterious connection between Arialoth and Mimi.
During the Armadeum/Torrent Masquerade ball, Arialoth's invitation was given to Ori Rivulet by Vera. However, using a ring of invisibility that was sent to him by Veyrah, Arialoth was able to sneak into the ball and meet with her. She confided in him that she needed help with a secret council, to which he agreed. When Veyrah proposed the idea of declaring together, Arialoth saw a vision of his late wife, Ariana, in Veyrah's striking resemblance to her. This was a jarring experience for Arialoth, who hastily declined, and left the ball.
Castleton Part 2
Arialoth has only been seen at the Cloud Ball reacting to the arrival of King Zander Torrent of Cerul, notably that his demeanor changed considerably as the King entered. Arialoth has been mentioned as a suspect in Lady Soar Claymore's investigation regarding the two poisonings of Duke Kingsbrook, as well as by Veyrah in the roster of members of the Secret Council of Arma.
