The result of a youthful tryst with an unspoken of father, Vera took up a pact with Scrios as a means to attain the higher status that she felt she deserved by birthright. Through this, she helped her mother marry into House Rivulet. Even though her name bears her status as an illegitimate child, she lived alongside her half-siblings. Orian and Eviarix Rivulet, until Evie disappeared before entering the Matching Season and she was cast out of House Rivulet. In the time following, she used her Pact to learn the identity of her birth father, Sir Miles, Duke of Kingsbrook, quickly embedding herself in his household as a means to make it to the Matching Season in the Castle with the ambition of ascending to a position that she believes she deserves.

Storylines

Background

The product of a youth-fueled forbidden love affair between a half-elf woman and a wealthy half-elf noble, Vera and her mother were subject to the struggles of common life. By the time she was 20, Vera had learned that she was of noble blood, though did not know who. She took matters into her own hands by making a pact with Scrios, Demigod of Entropy, as a way to remove those obstacles, aiming to gain a title, as was her birthright.

Through the gifts granted to her by the pact, Vera managed to see her mother wed Lord Rivulet, seeing her attain noble status. However, he did not extend his noble name to Vera, yet was permitted to reside within the estate, with no claim to anything apart from being near her mother. She lived among her half-siblings, Eviarix and Orian, for most of their lives. During her time, she learned much about the noble arts, including training as a bard to then teach the same to Evi.

Vera planned to play the long game, aiming to attend the Matching Season with Evi and hoping that when her stepfather eventually passed and Ori gains the title, he would grant her a title of her own. However, when Eviarix disappeared, Lord Rivulet sent her away, blaming her for not doing her job of looking after the one under her care.

In her time away, she sought out any other means to see her way to the matching season, and sought out the identity of her father. In time, she learned it was Sir Miles, Duke of Kingsbrook, Advisor to the King. With a focus on using her words, guile, and a healthy dose of trickery, she revealed her identity, and was welcomed into Kingsbrook household, though his position with the King made it impossible for him to claim her. However, being a part of the household did see her attending the Matching Season, where she could seek out a potential match and declare for herself.
